Lyrnessos

Lyrnessos is a historical city in modern-day Turkey, located in the district of Gaziemir in the province of İzmir. The city dates back to the ancient Greek period, with its name mentioned in several historical sources, including the writings of the Greek historian Strabo.

According to historical records, Lyrnessos was an important city in the region, known for its strategic location and fertile soil. The city was likely founded during the Archaic period, with its peak of prosperity occurring during the Hellenistic period under the rule of the Ptolemaic Kingdom.

The location of Lyrnessos is believed to be in the area now known as İncirliova, where several ancient ruins and artifacts have been discovered. Excavations at the site have revealed a number of archaeological finds, including ceramics, coins, and other artifacts dating from the Hellenistic to the Roman period.

Lyrnessos is also mentioned in the Iliad, the epic poem attributed to the ancient Greek poet Homer, where it is described as one of the cities that supported the Trojan War.
