Loodustööstus

Loodustööstus, also known as the iron industry, is a sector of the economy that focuses on the extraction, processing, and manufacturing of iron and its alloys. The primary raw material for loodustööstus is iron ore, which is mined from the Earth's crust. The most common types of iron ore include hematite and magnetite.

The process of extracting iron from its ore involves several steps. Initially, the ore is crushed and ground into a fine powder. This powder is then mixed with coke (a form of coal) and limestone, and heated in a blast furnace. The high temperature causes the iron oxide in the ore to react with the carbon in the coke, producing molten iron and carbon dioxide. The limestone reacts with impurities in the ore, forming a slag that floats on top of the molten iron.

Once the iron is molten, it is poured into molds to form ingots. These ingots can then be further processed into various forms, such as steel, through a process known as steelmaking. Steelmaking involves melting the iron ingots with other elements, such as carbon, to create steel with specific properties.
