Logomsetning

Logomsetning is a term used in economics and business to describe the process of changing the unit of measurement for financial reporting. This can involve a redenomination of currency, where a large unit of currency is replaced by a smaller one, effectively removing zeros from all monetary values. For example, if a country's currency is redenominated by a factor of 1000, then 1000 units of the old currency become 1 unit of the new currency. This process is often undertaken to simplify accounting, reduce transaction costs, and improve the psychological perception of currency value, particularly in countries experiencing high inflation.

The primary goal of logomsetning is to make financial figures more manageable and to restore confidence in the currency. Before implementing logomsetning, governments typically stabilize the economy to prevent the new currency from rapidly devaluing.
