Lobositz

Lobositz, known in Czech as Lovosice, is a town in the Litoměřice District of the Ústí nad Labem Region in the Czech Republic. The name Lobositz is the historical German exonym for the town.

Geography: It is situated in the central Elbe valley, roughly 4 kilometers north of Litoměřice and about 25 kilometers south of Ústí nad Labem. The area features a mix of agricultural land, urban settlements, and modest hilly terrain.

Demographics and history: As of 2023, the town has around 11,000 inhabitants. Lovosice has medieval origins and developed as a market town in the Middle Ages. The area is associated with the Battle of Lobositz, fought nearby on 1 October 1756, which is regarded as the opening engagement of the Seven Years' War.

Economy and transport: Today, Lobositz serves as a local administrative and economic center with a diversified economy based on manufacturing, trade, and services. It is connected by road and rail to surrounding towns and to larger urban centers in the region.
