Lndose

Lndose is a term used informally in some data analysis contexts to denote the natural logarithm of a dose value. It is not an official standard unit or widely recognized measure, but it appears in discussions of dose–response modelling and data transformation where logarithmic scaling is convenient.

Definition and notation: lndose is defined as lndose = ln(dose), where dose is the amount administered in a consistent unit (e.g., mg or Gy). The result is a dimensionless quantity. Example: if dose = 50 mg, lndose ≈ 3.912.

Applications: Transforming doses with the natural log can linearize certain relationships between dose and response, enabling linear or logistic regression analyses. It is commonly used alongside other log-transformations in pharmacology, toxicology, and environmental health. Note: In pharmacology, log-dose models (such as log-dose-probit or logit models) rely on the log-transformed dose; lndose is a shorthand variant used informally.

Limitations and interpretation: Because the logarithm requires positive values, dose must be greater than zero. When comparing across studies or units, lndose values are only comparable after standardizing dosing units. To interpret results in the original scale, transform back with dose = exp(lndose).
