Lisensiaatti
Lisensiaatti, or licentiate, is a postgraduate academic degree used in Finland and some other Nordic and European education systems. It is positioned between a master's degree and a doctoral degree. The degree is awarded after a period of advanced study and original research, typically including coursework and the submission of a licentiate thesis or dissertation. The exact requirements vary by country and institution, and by field; some programs may involve an examination or a public defense of the thesis.
The lisensiaatti serves as an intermediate qualification that may allow the holder to proceed to a Doctor
Historical context: In the Nordic countries, the licentiate has been part of the traditional degree structure.
