Limenas

Limenas, also known as Thasos Town, is the capital and main port of the Greek island of Thasos, in the northern Aegean Sea. It serves as the administrative center of Thasos regional unit, within the region of East Macedonia and Thrace. The town lies on the northeast coast of the island.

The name Limenas means port in Greek, reflecting its longstanding maritime role as the island's harbor.

The area corresponds to the site of the ancient city of Thasos and its harbour. The Archaeological Museum of Thassos in Limenas houses artifacts from excavations across the island, including classical and Hellenistic pieces. Nearby ruins and the surrounding landscape testify to the site's long history as a trading center and marble quarrying region.

Limenas is the main ferry hub for Thasos, with regular services to Keramoti on the mainland and seasonal links to Kavala or Thessaloniki. The town also functions as the commercial and administrative heart of the island, with a waterfront promenade, shops, and seafood tavernas supporting a tourism-based economy.
