Lichtscheu

Lichtscheu is a small village and a former municipality in the district of Schmalkalden-Meiningen in the German state of Thuringia. It is located in the valley of the Werra river, approximately 10 kilometers southeast of Meiningen. As of 2019, it has a population of around 250 people.

The village is known for its well-preserved historic center, which is characterized by timber-framed houses and a church. The Lichtscheu Church, dedicated to Saint Peter and Saint Paul, is a notable landmark in the village. It was first mentioned in a document in 1343 and has been expanded and renovated several times since then.

Lichtscheu was first mentioned in a document in 1275. It was part of the County of Henneberg and later the Duchy of Saxe-Meiningen. In 1974, Lichtscheu was incorporated into the municipality of Meiningen, and in 1994, it became a part of the newly formed municipality of Meiningen.
