Leistungskurs
Leistungskurs, often abbreviated as LK, is a term used in the German secondary education system to denote an advanced course in the upper level (Oberstufe) of a Gymnasium. In contrast to the Grundkurse, Leistungskurse are studied more intensively and aim to deepen knowledge in a chosen subject area. Students typically select two Leistungskurse by the end of the 11th grade (or at the start of the 12th), depending on the state. The subjects chosen are usually core academic disciplines but can include languages, sciences, mathematics, humanities, or arts. The curriculum and the number of hours per week are defined by the state education authority and may differ between Länder.
