Leikanger

Leikanger is a municipality and a village in Vestland county, Norway. It is located in the inner Sognefjord. The municipality was established in 1838 and merged with the municipality of Balestrand and Sogndal to form the new municipality of Vestland on January 1, 2020. The administrative center of the former Leikanger municipality was the village of Leikanger.

The village of Leikanger is situated on the northern shore of the Sognefjord. It has a long history of settlement, with evidence of human activity dating back to the Iron Age. Historically, Leikanger was an important agricultural and fishing center. The area is characterized by steep mountains and fertile valleys.
