Lecsukódása

Lecsukódása is a Hungarian term that translates to "sinking," "settling," or "subsidence" in English. It refers to the process where a surface, typically ground or a structure built upon it, moves downward due to underlying forces or changes. This phenomenon can occur in various contexts, most notably in geology and civil engineering.

In geology, lecsukódása describes the lowering of the Earth's surface. This can be caused by natural processes such as the compaction of sediments, the dissolution of underground rock formations (like limestone or salt), or tectonic activity. For instance, areas with significant groundwater extraction can experience subsidence as the water table drops, reducing the support for the overlying soil. Volcanic activity can also lead to surface subsidence as magma chambers empty.
