Lebialem

Lebialem is a department in the Southwest Region of Cameroon. It is located in the western part of the country, in the Grassfields region. The capital of Lebialem is Menji. The department is predominantly rural, with agriculture being the main economic activity. Common crops grown include cocoa, coffee, palm oil, and various food crops.

The population of Lebialem is diverse, primarily comprising several ethnic groups, including the Manyu, Bangwa, and others. The area is characterized by its hilly terrain and lush vegetation. Lebialem has faced significant challenges in recent years due to the ongoing Anglophone Crisis, which has disrupted daily life, governance, and economic activities in the region. Displacement of populations and humanitarian concerns are prevalent issues. The infrastructure in Lebialem, like in many rural areas of Cameroon, is often basic. Access to services such as healthcare and education can be limited. Despite the difficulties, the people of Lebialem maintain strong cultural traditions and community ties. The natural environment offers potential for ecotourism, though this remains largely underdeveloped.
