Laringología

Laringología is the branch of medicine that deals with the study, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases and disorders of the larynx. The larynx, commonly known as the voice box, is a cartilaginous structure located in the neck that plays a crucial role in breathing, producing sound for speech, and protecting the trachea against food aspiration. Laringología encompasses a wide range of conditions affecting this vital organ.

Physicians specializing in this field, called laryngologists or otolaryngologists with a subspecialty in laryngology, address issues such as voice disorders (dysphonia), hoarseness, vocal cord paralysis, laryngitis, and laryngeal tumors. They also manage conditions related to swallowing difficulties (dysphagia) that may stem from laryngeal dysfunction. Diagnostic tools employed by laryngologists include laryngoscopy, stroboscopy, and acoustic analysis of the voice. Treatment options can range from medical therapies and voice therapy to surgical interventions, including microsurgery of the vocal cords and, in some cases, radical surgery for cancer.
