Lapwai

Lapwai is a city in Nez Perce County, Idaho, United States. It lies on Lapwai Creek near its confluence with the Clearwater River and sits within the Nez Perce Indian Reservation. The city hosts facilities of the Nez Perce Tribe, including tribal government offices and cultural programs.

Historically, the area has been inhabited by the Nez Perce people for centuries. The reservation was established following 19th-century treaty agreements, and the region played a role in the broader events of the Nez Perce War era. The community developed as a local hub for administration, education, and agriculture serving the reservation and surrounding settlements.

Today, Lapwai is a small, rural community with an economy anchored by tribal government activities, public services, agriculture, and small businesses. It is part of the Lewiston–Clarkston metropolitan area and serves as a gateway to Nez Perce cultural resources, including museums and sites associated with the Nez Perce National Historical Park in the region.
