Landgraaf

Landgraaf is a municipality located in the province of Limburg, Netherlands. It is situated in the southeastern part of the country, close to the German border. The municipality was formed in 1982 through the amalgamation of the former municipalities of Schaesberg, Ubach over Worms, and the village of Houthem.

Historically, the area was characterized by mining activities, with several coal mines operating in Landgraaf. These mines played a significant role in the region's economic development for many years. However, the mines have since closed, and Landgraaf has transitioned to a more diversified economy.

Today, Landgraaf is known for its green spaces and recreational facilities. It is home to SnowWorld, an indoor ski resort, and Mondo Verde, a large theme park and garden. The municipality also hosts the Pinkpop Festival, one of the oldest and largest pop music festivals in the Netherlands.

Landgraaf has a population of approximately 37,000 residents. The municipality offers a mix of residential areas, commercial centers, and natural landscapes. Its proximity to Germany and other Dutch cities makes it a well-connected location within the region. The administrative center of Landgraaf is located in the district of Waubach.
