Lafitte
Lafitte refers to a number of individuals and places associated with the Lafitte family, most notably Jean Lafitte, a prominent figure in early 19th-century Louisiana. Jean Lafitte was a French-American pirate and privateer who operated in the Gulf of Mexico. He and his brother, Pierre Lafitte, were instrumental in the defense of New Orleans during the War of 1812, earning a pardon from U.S. President Andrew Jackson for their service. Their base of operations was often cited as Barataria Bay, a lagoon in Louisiana.
The name Lafitte is also associated with a legendary treasure purportedly hidden by Jean Lafitte, which has
