Laegra

Laegra is a fictional coastal city-state and port in the archipelago of Asterra in the fantasy world of Eldoria. It functions as a major maritime and trading center, with a long-standing tradition of seafaring, shipbuilding, and crafts markets. The city sits on a natural harbour on a crescent peninsula, sheltered by basalt cliffs and tidal channels. It covers about 42 square kilometers and has a population of roughly 40,000. The surrounding countryside comprises salt marshes, orchards, and low hills.

Laegra originated as a free city in the 9th century, growing through trade and alliances until it secured de facto independence in the early 11th century. It flourished during the medieval era, strengthening its harbor defenses and expanding merchant fleets. In the modern era, Laegra joined the Federation of Northern Ports in the 19th century, while retaining substantial autonomy over local affairs.

The city is governed by the Council of Docks, a unicameral assembly elected every four years, with a mayor serving as executive. The legal system blends customary maritime law with municipal ordinances and a coastal court handles disputes.

Laegra’s economy centers on the port and related services, including fishing, shipyards, warehousing, and trade in timber, salt, wine, and crafted goods. The local language is Laegran, and cultural life revolves around the harbor quarter, markets, and the annual Festival of Tides.

Notable landmarks include the Old Lighthouse, Market Gate, and Cliffside Monastery. Institutions such as the Maritime College and the Laegra Museum of History support education and preservation of seafaring heritage.
