Laborglas

Laborglas refers to glassware used in laboratories for conducting, measuring, and handling chemical processes. Most lab glassware is made from borosilicate glass, prized for its chemical resistance and ability to withstand moderate heating and rapid temperature changes.

Typical items include beakers, Erlenmeyer flasks, volumetric and graduated cylinders, round-bottom flasks, test tubes, funnels, glass pipettes, burettes, condensers, distillation heads, and chromatography columns. Accessories such as glass tubing, glass rods, and ground-glass joints enable vacuum and connected systems.

Key properties: chemical inertness to many acids and bases, thermal resistance, transparency for visual inspection, and ease of cleaning. Some items are designed for vacuum or pressure use and may have joints, ground surfaces, or necks sized to standard adapters.

Manufacture and standards: lab glassware is produced to standardized shapes, capacities, and tolerances, with markings indicating material (borosilicate) and volume. In addition to borosilicate, some glassware uses soda-lime or other compositions for specific applications.

Care and safety: avoid sudden temperature changes to minimize thermal shock; inspect for cracks or chips before use; handle hot glass with tongs; clean with appropriate detergents and, when necessary, specialized cleaning protocols; store properly to prevent damage.
