LNGterminaalit

LNGterminaalit, or Liquefied Natural Gas Terminals, are facilities designed for the import or export of liquefied natural gas (LNG). LNG is natural gas that has been cooled down to a liquid state at approximately -162 degrees Celsius. This process reduces its volume by a factor of 600, making it much more efficient for transportation over long distances, particularly by sea.

An LNG terminal typically consists of several key components. These include jetties for docking LNG carrier ships, storage tanks for holding the liquefied natural gas, and regasification plants. The regasification process involves warming the LNG back into its gaseous state so it can be fed into the existing natural gas pipeline network. For export terminals, the process is reversed, involving liquefaction plants to cool natural gas into LNG before loading it onto ships.

The development of LNG terminals has been driven by the increasing global trade of natural gas.
