Lümfsüsteem

Lümfsüsteem, also known as the lymphatic system, is a crucial part of the circulatory system and the immune system. It is a network of vessels, nodes, and organs that work together to transport lymph, a clear fluid containing white blood cells, throughout the body. This system plays a vital role in defending the body against infections and diseases, as well as in maintaining fluid balance.

The lymphatic vessels begin as tiny capillaries that collect excess fluid, known as interstitial fluid, from tissues. This fluid, now called lymph, is then transported through progressively larger vessels. Along these vessels are lymph nodes, small bean-shaped structures that act as filters. Within the lymph nodes, white blood cells, particularly lymphocytes, monitor the lymph for foreign substances like bacteria, viruses, and abnormal cells. If such substances are detected, the lymphocytes initiate an immune response.

Key organs within the lümfsüsteem include the spleen, which filters blood and houses lymphocytes, and the thymus, where T lymphocytes mature. The tonsils and adenoids, located in the throat, also serve as immune tissues that trap pathogens entering the body through the mouth and nose. The lümfsüsteem is essential for removing waste products and toxins from the body and for absorbing fats from the digestive system. Its proper functioning is therefore indispensable for overall health and well-being.
