The direction of heat flux is always from a higher temperature to a lower temperature.

The unit of heat flux in the International System of Units (SI) is watts per square meter (W/m²). This unit quantifies the amount of thermal power flowing through a given area. Mathematically, heat flux (q) can be expressed as the change in heat energy (Q) over time (t) and area (A), or as the product of thermal conductivity (k), the negative temperature gradient (dT/dx), and the area.

Heat flux is a crucial parameter in various scientific and engineering applications. In building design, it helps determine insulation requirements and energy efficiency. In material science, it is used to understand how materials respond to thermal stress and to design materials with specific thermal properties.
