Kümnendväljendi

Kümnendväljendi, also known as a decimal expression, is a way of writing numbers that use a decimal point to separate the whole number part from the fractional part. The digits to the right of the decimal point represent fractions with denominators that are powers of 10. For example, in the number 12.345, the digit '3' represents three tenths (3/10), the digit '4' represents four hundredths (4/100), and the digit '5' represents five thousandths (5/1000).

The place value system extends to the right of the decimal point. The first digit to the right of the decimal point is in the tenths place, the second digit is in the hundredths place, the third digit is in the thousandths place, and so on. Each place value is ten times smaller than the place value to its left. This system allows for the precise representation of numbers that are not whole numbers.

Kümnendväljendi can be finite or infinite. A finite decimal expression has a limited number of digits after the decimal point, such as 0.5 or 3.14. An infinite decimal expression has an unlimited number of digits after the decimal point. Infinite decimals can be repeating, where a sequence of digits repeats indefinitely (e.g., 0.333...), or non-repeating (e.g., pi, which is approximately 3.14159...).
