Kärlsträngar

Kärlsträngar, also known as vascular bundles, are the primary transport tissues in vascular plants. They are responsible for conducting water and minerals from the roots to the rest of the plant, and for transporting sugars produced during photosynthesis from the leaves to other parts of the plant where they are needed for growth or storage. These bundles are composed of two main types of vascular tissue: xylem and phloem. Xylem primarily transports water and dissolved minerals upwards, while phloem transports sugars and other organic nutrients in both directions.

The arrangement of xylem and phloem within a vascular bundle varies depending on the plant group and organ. In stems and roots of dicotyledonous plants, vascular bundles are typically arranged in a ring, with xylem located towards the center of the stem or root and phloem towards the outside. In monocotyledonous plants, vascular bundles are scattered throughout the stem. Leaf veins are also vascular bundles, providing a network for efficient transport and support. The presence of vascular bundles is a defining characteristic of vascular plants, distinguishing them from non-vascular plants like mosses and algae.
