Käivitamismehhanism

A käivitamismehhanism, or starting mechanism, is a device or system used to initiate the operation of an engine or other machinery. The primary purpose of a starting mechanism is to provide the initial rotational force necessary to overcome the engine's inertia and bring it up to a speed where it can sustain its own operation. This initial force is typically achieved through a stored energy source.

Common types of käivitamismehhanism include electric starters, which use an electric motor powered by a battery, and recoil starters, often found in smaller engines like those in lawnmowers or chainsaws, which rely on a spring-loaded mechanism. Older or larger engines might employ manual cranking, a hand crank, or even compressed air systems. The design of the käivitamismehhanism is closely linked to the type and size of the engine it serves, as well as the intended operating environment. The process often involves engaging a drive mechanism, such as a pinion gear, with a larger gear on the engine's crankshaft, thereby transferring the starter's energy to the engine.
