Kyynärvarrella

Kyynärvarrella refers to the forearm, the part of the upper limb between the elbow and the wrist. It is a crucial anatomical region for a wide range of movements and functions. The forearm consists of two long bones, the radius and the ulna, which articulate with each other and with the humerus at the elbow and with the carpal bones at the wrist.

The muscles of the forearm are organized into anterior and posterior compartments. The anterior compartment primarily contains muscles responsible for flexing the wrist and fingers, as well as pronating the forearm (turning the palm downwards). The posterior compartment houses muscles that extend the wrist and fingers and supinate the forearm (turning the palm upwards). These muscles are innervated by the median, ulnar, and radial nerves, which run through the forearm.

The forearm also contains important blood vessels, including the radial and ulnar arteries, which branch from the brachial artery. These vessels supply blood to the muscles and soft tissues of the forearm and hand. Ligaments and connective tissues provide stability to the joints and support the muscles. The skin of the forearm can vary in thickness and hair distribution depending on age and sex. Injuries to the forearm, such as fractures, sprains, and tendonitis, are common and can significantly impact a person's ability to perform daily activities.
