Kvantatífar, a term derived from quantum mechanics, refers to entities or concepts that exhibit quantized properties. This means that certain physical quantities associated with these entities can only take on discrete, specific values, rather than a continuous range of possibilities. Think of it like a staircase where you can only stand on the steps, not in between them.

In quantum mechanics, electrons in atoms are a prime example of kvantatífar. Their energy levels are quantized, meaning an electron can only occupy specific energy shells around the nucleus. When an electron transitions between these shells, it absorbs or emits a photon with an energy precisely matching the difference between the two energy levels. This is a fundamental aspect of atomic spectra.

Other examples include the quantization of angular momentum and spin. Particles possess intrinsic angular momentum called spin, which is also quantized and can only take on specific values. Photons, the particles of light, also exhibit quantized energy, with their energy directly proportional to their frequency.
