Kuulmeluud
Kuulmeluud, also known as ossicles, are three tiny bones found in the middle ear of mammals. They are the malleus, incus, and stapes. These bones are crucial for transmitting sound vibrations from the eardrum to the inner ear. The malleus, or hammer, is attached to the eardrum and receives its vibrations. It then passes these vibrations to the incus, or anvil. The incus, in turn, transmits the vibrations to the stapes, or stirrup. The stapes is the smallest bone in the human body and its base fits into the oval window, an opening to the cochlea in the inner ear. This chain of bones amplifies the sound vibrations, allowing us to hear even faint sounds. Their small size and specialized structure enable efficient energy transfer. Damage to these bones, often caused by infection or trauma, can lead to hearing loss.
