Kuntze
Kuntze is a German surname. The most notable bearer is Karl Ernst Otto Kuntze (1847–1907), a German botanist known for challenging the conventions of botanical nomenclature in his 1891 work Revisio Generum Plantarum. In this publication, he proposed extensive revisions to plant naming and classification, arguing for a systematic overhaul of nomenclatural rules rather than adherence to the established norms of the time. His proposals sparked considerable controversy within the botanical community, and many of his suggested changes were not adopted by subsequent taxonomic work. Nevertheless, Kuntze’s criticism of established practices contributed to ongoing discussions that eventually informed later reforms in botanical nomenclature.
