Kuning

Kuning is the Indonesian and Malay word for the color yellow. It is used to describe objects that appear yellow to the eye and to name shades of that color, such as kuning cerah (bright yellow) or kuning emas (golden yellow).

In color science, yellow is located in the visible spectrum roughly between 570 and 590 nanometers. In digital screens (RGB), yellow is produced by combining red and green light, while in printing (CMYK) yellow is one of the primary pigments used to create other hues.

Cultural associations vary by region. In many cultures, yellow or gold is linked to warmth, sunlight, and vitality; it is also used to indicate caution in signage or to signify royalty and wealth in some traditions. In the Indonesian and Malay-speaking world, yellow has various symbolic uses and can be seen in traditional dress and agricultural imagery, though meanings are not universal.

Common uses in everyday life include describing ripe fruits and vegetables with yellow skin, such as bananas and other yellow-skinned produce. The term kuning also appears in everyday phrases and naming within Indonesian and Malay contexts, illustrating how a color term can function across language, culture, and daily life.
