Kuivsüsteemides refers to a type of water-based fire suppression system that utilizes a dry pipe valve to control the flow of water. Unlike wet pipe systems, which maintain a constant supply of water in the pipes, dry pipe systems keep the pipes filled with compressed air or nitrogen. This means that water is not present in the sprinkler heads until a fire is detected.

When a fire breaks out, the heat causes a sprinkler head to activate, releasing the compressed air. This drop in air pressure triggers the dry pipe valve, allowing water to flow into the system and out of the activated sprinkler head. The delay in water delivery is a key characteristic of dry pipe systems.

These systems are typically installed in environments where freezing temperatures are a concern, such as unheated warehouses, parking garages, and outdoor structures. The absence of water in the pipes when temperatures drop below freezing prevents them from bursting. However, the inherent delay in water delivery means they are less effective in situations where rapid fire suppression is critical. Special care is also needed to ensure the air pressure is maintained and that the dry pipe valve is regularly inspected and tested to guarantee proper operation.
