Kuivaniemi

Kuivaniemi is a former municipality of Finland. It was located in the province of Oulu and was part of the Northern Ostrobothnia region. The municipality was established in 1865. In 2013, Kuivaniemi merged with the neighboring municipality of Tervola to form the new municipality of Tervola. The administrative center of Kuivaniemi was the village of Kuivaniemi.

The area of Kuivaniemi was characterized by its coastal landscape, situated along the Bothnian Bay. The municipality's economy was historically based on agriculture and forestry. Fishing also played a significant role in the local livelihood. The main population center developed around the village of Kuivaniemi, which had services such as a church, a school, and shops.

The merger with Tervola was driven by a desire to improve the efficiency of municipal services and to strengthen the economic base of the region. Following the merger, the former territory of Kuivaniemi became part of the larger Tervola municipality. While Kuivaniemi no longer exists as an independent administrative entity, its history and cultural heritage are preserved within the context of Tervola. The natural environment and the remnants of its past, such as old farmsteads and coastal features, continue to define the area. The population of Kuivaniemi at the time of the merger was around 3,500 inhabitants.
