Ks2

KS2 refers to Key Stage 2 in the English education system. It is the final stage of primary education, typically for children aged 7 to 11 years old, covering Years 3, 4, 5, and 6. The curriculum at this stage builds upon the foundations laid in Key Stage 1 and aims to provide a broad and balanced education.

Core subjects taught during KS2 include English, mathematics, and science. In addition to these, students also study a range of foundation subjects, which can include art and design, computing, design and technology, geography, history, music, and physical education. Religious education is also a mandatory part of the curriculum, although parents can withdraw their children from this.

A significant element of KS2 is the statutory assessment that takes place at the end of Year 6. These assessments, often referred to as SATs (Standard Assessment Tests), are designed to measure a child's attainment in English and mathematics against national standards. The results of these tests are used to report on school performance and to provide an overview of student progress.

The KS2 phase is crucial for preparing children for secondary school. It focuses on developing their academic skills, fostering their social and emotional development, and encouraging a love of learning as they transition to the next stage of their education.
