Kromatfärgämne

Kromatfärgämne refers to pigments that contain chromium. These compounds have been used historically as colorants in various applications, including paints, ceramics, and textiles. The specific color produced depends on the oxidation state and chemical environment of the chromium ion. For instance, lead chromate (PbCrO4) is known for its bright yellow color, famously used in "chrome yellow" paints. Other chromium-based pigments include chrome green, which is typically a mixture of chromium oxide and Prussian blue, and chrome orange, often derived from lead sulfochromate.

The use of kromatfärgämne has declined significantly in many regions due to environmental and health concerns. Chromium compounds, particularly hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)), can be toxic and carcinogenic. Regulations have been implemented to limit or ban their use in consumer products and industrial processes where exposure is a risk.
