Kredittfaktura

Kredittfaktura, also known as a credit note or credit memo, is a commercial document issued by a seller to a buyer. It reduces the amount a buyer owes to the seller. This typically occurs when the buyer has returned goods, received a discount after the original invoice was issued, or if there was an overcharge on the original invoice.

A kredittfaktura serves as an official record of a price adjustment or return. It details the original invoice number it pertains to, the items being credited, the quantity, the price per item, and the total credit amount. The issuance of a kredittfaktura essentially reverses or corrects parts of a previous transaction.

From an accounting perspective, a kredittfaktura acts as a debit to the seller's accounts receivable and a credit to the seller's sales returns and allowances account. For the buyer, it reduces their accounts payable and can be recorded as a reduction in inventory or an expense. Both parties must maintain these documents for accurate financial record-keeping and to ensure compliance with tax regulations.
