Konventa

Konventa is a historic port city-state in the fictional continent of Valoria, located on the Konventian Gulf at the mouth of the Brine River. The name, from conventus, reflects its medieval monastic origins.

It originated as a 12th-century monastic outpost and grew into a regional trading hub after a 1325 charter that granted merchant self-governance. Fortifications, a medieval market, and a university followed, with modernization in the 19th and 20th centuries as it joined a larger confederation.

The historic core is ringed by walls, with a southern harbor and a canal network linking the merchant quarter to civic districts; a modern business district lies along the eastern waterfront.

The economy centers on the port, ship repair, and regional finance, complemented by tourism. The Konventa Market and a university-driven incubator support crafts and creative industries.

Cultural institutions include the Konventa Library, which preserves medieval manuscripts and archives. Konventa University, founded in the 17th century, collaborates on regional research. The annual Konventa Festival celebrates maritime heritage and literature.

Governance operates under a mayor–council system with guild representation within the Valorian Confederation, guided by a constitutional charter.

The population is about 42,000. The official language is Konventish, with Valorian and other dialects common in commerce.
