Konoplja

Konoplja, also known as Cannabis or hemp, is a genus of flowering plants in the family Cannabaceae. There are typically three species recognized: Cannabis sativa, Cannabis indica, and Cannabis ruderalis. These plants are native to Central Asia and have been cultivated for thousands of years for various purposes.

Historically, konoplja has been a significant source of fiber for textiles, ropes, and paper. Its seeds are edible and rich in protein, omega-3, and omega-6 fatty acids. The plant also contains compounds known as cannabinoids, the most well-known being tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD). THC is psychoactive, while CBD is not.

The cultivation and use of konoplja are subject to varying legal regulations worldwide. In many places, industrial hemp, defined as cannabis with very low THC content, is permitted for agricultural and commercial use, primarily for fiber and seed production. In contrast, cannabis with higher THC concentrations is often restricted or regulated due to its psychoactive properties and is sometimes used for medicinal or recreational purposes. Research into the medicinal applications of CBD and other cannabinoids is ongoing. The plant's adaptability allows it to grow in diverse climates, though optimal growth conditions vary by species and strain.
