Kompresorë, known in English as compressors, are mechanical devices that increase the pressure of a fluid (gas or air) by reducing its volume. This process stores potential energy in the compressed fluid, which can then be used for various applications.

The fundamental principle behind a compressor involves taking in a fluid at a lower pressure and then expelling it at a higher pressure. This is typically achieved through the action of a piston, rotor, or diaphragm that displaces and confines the fluid within a chamber. As the volume of the chamber decreases, the fluid molecules are forced closer together, leading to an increase in pressure and temperature.

There are numerous types of compressors, broadly categorized into positive-displacement and dynamic compressors. Positive-displacement compressors, such as reciprocating and rotary screw compressors, trap a fixed volume of fluid and force it into a smaller space. Dynamic compressors, like centrifugal and axial compressors, use rotating impellers or blades to accelerate the fluid and then convert this kinetic energy into pressure.

Compressors are essential components in a wide array of industries. They are vital for the operation of pneumatic tools, refrigeration and air conditioning systems, power generation, and in the automotive industry for turbochargers.
