The term *komparativní* is a Czech adjective derived from the Latin word *comparativus*, meaning "comparative." In Czech grammar, it is primarily associated with the comparative degree of adjectives and adverbs, which is used to express a higher degree of a quality or attribute compared to a standard or another entity.

In the Czech language, the comparative form is typically formed by adding the suffix *-ější* to the positive form of an adjective or adverb. For example, the positive form *velký* ("big") becomes *větší* ("bigger"), and *rychle* ("quickly") transforms into *rychleji* ("more quickly"). Some adjectives have irregular comparative forms, such as *dobrý* ("good"), which becomes *lepší* ("better"), or *špatný* ("bad"), which becomes *horší* ("worse").
