The oil control rings, a specific type of kolvirventiilid, scrape excess oil from the cylinder walls during the piston's downstroke, returning it to the crankcase. This prevents excessive oil from entering the combustion chamber, where it would burn and contribute to emissions and carbon buildup.

Furthermore, kolvirventiilid assist in heat transfer. They conduct heat from the piston to the cylinder walls, which are then cooled by the engine's cooling system. This helps to prevent the piston from overheating and becoming damaged. The number and design of kolvirventiilid can vary depending on the engine's application and performance requirements. Typically, an engine will have at least two compression rings and one oil control ring per piston.
