Kolmielektrodista refers to a three-electrode setup or system. This configuration is commonly employed in various scientific and engineering applications, particularly in electrochemistry, where it allows for precise control and measurement of electrochemical processes. The three electrodes typically consist of a working electrode, a counter electrode, and a reference electrode.

The working electrode is where the electrochemical reaction of interest takes place. Its potential is controlled or measured relative to the reference electrode. The counter electrode serves to complete the electrical circuit, carrying the current that flows during the electrochemical process. Its primary function is to provide a conductive path without interfering with the electrochemical reaction occurring at the working electrode.

The reference electrode is crucial for maintaining a stable and known potential. It acts as a fixed point of reference against which the potential of the working electrode is measured or controlled. Common examples of reference electrodes include the saturated calomel electrode (SCE) and the silver/silver chloride electrode (Ag/AgCl).
