Koefienti

Koefienti is the term used to denote a coefficient in mathematics and related sciences. A coefficient is a numerical factor that multiplies a term in an expression, equation, or model. Coefficients appear in many contexts and help determine the scale, strength, or direction of terms and relationships.

In polynomials, for example p(x) = a0 + a1 x + a2 x^2, the numbers a0, a1, a2 are coefficients; the leading coefficient is the coefficient of the highest degree term. In linear algebra, coefficients are found in systems of equations and form the entries of the coefficient matrix. In differential equations, functions or constants that multiply derivatives or other terms are coefficients. In statistics and econometrics, regression models use coefficients (often denoted beta) to quantify the relationship between variables; these are sometimes called regression coefficients.

Coefficients are often data dependent and may carry units; the values may change with a different choice of variables or basis. They provide interpretation about influence, proportionality, or rate, but they do not by themselves define a model unless the corresponding variables are fixed.

Etymology and usage: the concept derives from the Latin coefficient, through French and other languages; in Albanian the singular form is koefienti and the plural koeficientet. The term is common in education, science, engineering, and finance.
