Klomifeenillä

Klomifeenillä is the Finnish name for clomiphene citrate. It is a selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM) used primarily to stimulate ovulation in women who have difficulty conceiving due to irregular or absent ovulation. It works by blocking estrogen receptors in the hypothalamus, which in turn increases the production of gonadotropins, such as follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH). These hormones then stimulate the development of ovarian follicles.

Klomifeenillä is typically taken orally for a period of five days, usually starting on the third, fourth, or fifth day of a woman's menstrual cycle. Ovulation is expected to occur within 5 to 10 days after the last dose. It is also used off-label in men to treat hypogonadism by increasing testosterone levels.

Common side effects can include hot flashes, bloating, abdominal discomfort, nausea, and breast tenderness. More serious, but less common, side effects can include ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) and visual disturbances. The risk of multiple births, particularly twins, is also increased. Klomifeenillä should only be used under the supervision of a healthcare professional. It is not suitable for everyone, and a thorough medical evaluation is necessary before starting treatment.
