Klimatendringa

Klimatendringa, also known as global warming, refers to the long-term alteration in statistical distribution of weather patterns over multiple decades or longer. This phenomenon is primarily driven by human activities that increase heat-trapping greenhouse gas concentrations in the Earth's atmosphere. The most significant greenhouse gases include carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), and nitrous oxide (N2O), which are released through burning fossil fuels, deforestation, and agricultural practices.

The scientific consensus is that the Earth's climate has warmed by approximately 1 degree Celsius over the past century, with most of this warming occurring in the last 50 years. This warming is accompanied by a range of impacts, including rising sea levels, changes in precipitation patterns, more frequent and severe heatwaves, and increased frequency of extreme weather events such as hurricanes and droughts.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has issued several reports outlining the scientific evidence for climate change and its impacts. These reports emphasize the urgency of mitigating greenhouse gas emissions to limit global warming to well below 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels, and preferably to 1.5 degrees Celsius, to avoid the most severe consequences.

Mitigation efforts focus on reducing greenhouse gas emissions through transitioning to renewable energy sources, improving energy efficiency, and implementing sustainable land-use practices. Adaptation strategies aim to build resilience to the impacts of climate change, such as improving infrastructure to withstand extreme weather events and developing early warning systems for natural disasters. International cooperation is crucial for addressing climate change, as it is a global issue that requires collective action and shared responsibility.
