Klasseverhouding

Klasseverhouding is a concept in Marxist theory that refers to the social and economic relations between different classes within a society. In this context, classes are defined as groups of people who share a common relationship to the means of production, and whose interests are determined by this relationship.

According to Marxist theory, capitalist societies are characterized by the presence of a ruling class, also known as the bourgeoisie, which owns the means of production and exploits the labor of a subordinate class, the proletariat. The bourgeoisie profit from the labor of the proletariat, who are forced to sell their labor in order to survive. This relationship is considered oppressive, as it allows the ruling class to accumulate wealth and power at the expense of the working class.

The concept of klasseverhouding is central to the understanding of class struggle and the revolutionary potential of the working class. Marx argued that as the contradictions between the interests of the bourgeoisie and the interests of the proletariat grow, the proletariat will become increasingly aware of its exploitation and will eventually overthrow the bourgeoisie in a revolution, establishing a classless society in which the means of production are owned and controlled by the people as a whole.

In its broader sense, the concept of klasseverhouding is not limited to Marxist theory, but can be applied to understanding social and economic relations in general. It highlights the importance of recognizing and addressing the power imbalances and exploitative relationships that exist between different groups within society.
