Kinsale

Kinsale is a historic port town in County Cork, Ireland, located at the southern end of Cork Harbour about 25 kilometers south of Cork city. The town sits on a sheltered harbor and is known for its maritime setting, narrow streets, and preserved historic architecture. Its Irish name, Cionn tSáile, translates to “head of the sea.”

Kinsale has medieval origins and developed as a fishing and trading settlement. It is best known for the Battle of Kinsale in 1601, a decisive conflict that helped end the Nine Years' War and shifted power toward English rule. The town’s fortifications, including Charles Fort overlooking the harbor and Desmond Castle on the quayside, reflect its strategic importance in the early modern period. The church of St Multose, established in the 12th or 13th century, remains active today.
