Kingswood

Kingswood is a settlement located in South Gloucestershire, England, situated on the eastern outskirts of Bristol. Historically, it was part of Gloucestershire until local government reforms in 1974 transferred it to the newly formed county of Avon. In 1996, Avon was abolished, and Kingswood became part of South Gloucestershire. The area is primarily residential and has a population that has grown significantly over the decades.

The origins of Kingswood can be traced back to agricultural land, but its development accelerated with the Industrial Revolution. Coal mining played a significant role in its expansion throughout the 18th and 19th centuries, providing employment and attracting a workforce to the area. The decline of the mining industry in the latter half of the 20th century led to a shift in the local economy, with a greater emphasis on manufacturing, services, and retail.

Kingswood has several distinct neighbourhoods and local amenities. It features a mix of housing types, from older terraced houses to more modern developments. The River Avon forms a boundary to the south and west of the area.
