Kindlasti

Kindlasti is a word in the Estonian language that functions as an adverb meaning certainly or definitely. It is used to express strong affirmation in both spoken and written contexts, and can stand alone as a response or modify a clause, for example: Ma kindlasti tulen (“I will definitely come”).

Grammar and etymology: Kindlasti is formed from the adjective kindel (“certain”) with the adverbial suffix -sti. Adverbs in Estonian are invariable, so kindlasti does not change form for case or number. It is a common, non-proper noun and is written with a lowercase initial letter in ordinary usage, except when it starts a sentence.

Usage notes: In both formal and informal speech, kindlasti conveys confidence and certainty. It can appear before a verb for emphasis, as in “Ma kindlasti tulen,” or at the start of a sentence, for example “Kindlasti on see õige.” It can also be used as an interjection, sounding like a standalone affirmative such as “Kindlasti!” when one agrees strongly.
