Kiertovesilämpötilat, often translated as circulating water temperatures or flow temperatures, refer to the temperature of the water circulating within a heating or cooling system. These temperatures are critical for the efficient and effective operation of systems like hydronic heating, radiant floor heating, and even some industrial cooling processes.

In a heating system, the supply water temperature is the temperature of the water as it leaves the heat source (e.g., boiler, heat pump) and enters the distribution network. The return water temperature is the temperature of the water as it comes back to the heat source after having circulated through the building's emitters (e.g., radiators, underfloor pipes). The difference between these two temperatures, known as the temperature differential or delta T, is a key indicator of system performance. A properly designed system will have a specific, optimal temperature differential that ensures sufficient heat transfer without excessive energy consumption.

For modern heating systems, particularly those utilizing condensing boilers or heat pumps, lower flow temperatures are generally more efficient. This is because these systems can extract more energy from fuel (like natural gas) or from the environment (in the case of heat pumps) when operating with cooler water. Conversely, older or simpler systems might require higher flow temperatures to adequately heat a space. Understanding and controlling kiertovesilämpötilat is essential for optimizing comfort, minimizing energy waste, and prolonging the lifespan of heating and cooling equipment.
