Kideyksiköt

Kideyksiköt refers to the functional units of the kidney. Each human kidney contains approximately one million such units. These microscopic structures are responsible for filtering blood and producing urine, thereby regulating the body's fluid balance, electrolyte levels, and waste excretion.

The primary component of a kideyksikkö is the nephron. A nephron consists of a renal corpuscle and a renal tubule. The renal corpuscle includes the glomerulus, a network of capillaries, and Bowman's capsule, which surrounds the glomerulus. Blood enters the glomerulus under pressure, forcing water and small solutes out into Bowman's capsule. This fluid then enters the renal tubule, a long, coiled tube where reabsorption and secretion processes occur.

As the filtrate travels through the renal tubule, essential substances like glucose, amino acids, and most of the water are reabsorbed back into the bloodstream. Simultaneously, waste products and excess ions are secreted from the blood into the tubule. This selective process ensures that the body retains vital nutrients while efficiently eliminating metabolic wastes. The remaining fluid, now concentrated urine, moves from the renal tubule into collecting ducts, which eventually lead to the renal pelvis and then out of the body. The intricate workings of these kideyksiköt are crucial for maintaining overall health and homeostasis.
