Khasavyurt

Khasavyurt is a town located in the Dagestan Republic, a federal subject of Russia. Situated in the southern part of the republic, it lies along the banks of the Samur River, approximately 150 kilometers northeast of the regional capital, Makhachkala. The town serves as the administrative center of Khasavyurtovsky District and is known for its strategic location in the Caucasus region.

Historically, Khasavyurt has been an important settlement due to its proximity to key trade routes connecting the North Caucasus with Central Asia and the Caspian Sea. The town’s name is derived from the Avar language, where "Khasavyurt" translates roughly to "new settlement" or "new village." The area has been inhabited since ancient times, with archaeological evidence suggesting early settlements dating back to the Bronze Age.

Khasavyurt played a significant role during the Russian-Caucasian Wars in the 19th century, serving as a key stronghold for Russian forces in their efforts to consolidate control over the region.
